Südinseltrip Tag 1 | South Island Trip Day 1

Heute begannen die Osterferien und gleichzeitig der Südinseltrip mit meiner Organisation ISENZ (International Student Education New Zealand). Ich stand früh im Morgen auf und meine ganze Gastfamilie fuhr mich nach Palmerston North, wo mich Mattana, die Frau von Russell (Organisator) zusammen mit anderen Schülern aus Whanganui in einem Van mit nach Wellington nahm. 

Nach einer kurzen, zweistündigen Fahrt erreichten wir Wellington, wo wir eine Stunde Zeit hatten, um die Stadt zu erkunden. Danach trafen wir alle Schüler (47 aus Deutschland, 2 aus der Schweiz und jeweils ein Schüler aus Italien und Norwegen). Nachdem wir Mittag hatten, wurde uns von unseren Betreuern gesagt, dass die Fähre aufgrund eines Gaslecks verspätet in Wellington ankommt. Deshalb hatten wir weitere drei Stunden zur freien Verfügung. Als erstes ging ich zusammen mit meiner Gruppe in das neuseeländische Nationalmuseum – Te Papa Tongarewa. 

Dort haben wir eine Ausstellung über Neuseeland und deren Beteiligung am ersten Weltkrieg besucht. Diese war sehr interessant und informativ. Nachdem wir diese besucht hatten, gingen wir in die Innenstadt von Wellington, wo wir  diverse Shops besuchten. Drei Stunden später mussten wir dann auch schon wieder zurück sein. Wir wurden zur Fähre, auch „Interislander“ genannt, gefahren, wo wir ein paar Stunden auf diese warteten. Alle waren froh als diese kam und wir um 18 Uhr in Richtung Picton ablegten. Viele schliefen an Bord oder/und stärkten sich mit kleinen Snacks. Um 21 Uhr sind wir dann in Picton angekommen.

 Gute 30 Minuten später waren wir dann auch im Holiday Park in Blenheim angekommen, wo wir uns in Zimmergruppen einteilten und danach Pizza aßen. Der erste Tag ging sehr schnell vorüber.

Travel day

Today begun the Easter holiday and with them the South Island trip with ISENZ (International Student Education New Zealand). I woke up at 6am and my whole hostfamily drove me to Palmerston North, where the Mattana, the wife of Russell (one of the guides) took me and some other students from Whanganui with a van to Wellington. After a quick two hour drive, we arrived in Wellington at 11am. We had time to discover Wellington for one hour. Then we met all students (47 from Germany, 2 from Switzerland, 1 from Italy, 1 from Norway) and guides for lunch, where they told us that the ferry is going to be delayed because of a gas leak.

 Now we had three hours time to do what we want. First our group went  to the National Museum of New Zealand – Te Papa Tongarewa. We visit the exhibiton „Gallipoli – The scale of our war“ ( as the name says it was about New Zealand and the first worldwar). It was a very interesting exhibiton about New Zealand soldiers and there histories during the war. After this we went in the city and visited a few different shops. Three hours later we met at a car park where Mattana gave us a lift to the ferry, also called „Interislander“. The Interislander was delayed and we waited a few hours. Everyone was glad, as the ferry came. 

We continued the journey as the ferry started at 6pm to Picton (on the South Island). Many of us slept and bought some snacks. At 9pm we arrived in Picton and a little bit later at the Holiday Park in Blenheim. We made room-groups and after this we had pizza. The first day ended very quickly.
